Pre-Treatment Instructions

  • Use iS Clinical Brightening Complex daily in the AM for 2 weeks prior OR as directed by your Simply Serene Provider. This helps suppress pigment and balances skin tone pre-resurfacing.

  • Discontinue all retinoids, acids, exfoliants, and active products at least 7 days before treatment.

  • Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours prior to treatment, as it can thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising.

  • Avoid ALL sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 4 weeks prior to treatment. This is critical and failure to comply may result in cancellation of your procedure. Avoid tanning sprays or self-tanner for 2 weeks prior to treatment.

  • No active breakouts or open wounds in the treatment area. If present, your provider will determine if it’s appropriate to proceed.

  • A minimum of 2 weeks must pass after any cosmetic treatments in the area (e.g., Facial & Body waxing, Botox, Filler, Chemical Peels) before receiving this procedure.

  • Inform your provider know if you have a history of cold sores—an antiviral medication may be recommended.

  • Stay well-hydrated and arrive at your appointment with clean, product-free skin.

What to Expect

  • It is normal for your skin to feel hot, tight, red, mildly swollen, or have a sunburned sensation immediately after treatment and for up to 3 days. Most clients experience little to no downtime and typically resume normal activities right after treatment.

  • Does it hurt?! Most clients describe the sensation as a mild, snap-like feeling that is generally well tolerated. While numbing is NOT typically needed, we can provide a topical numbing cream beforehand — just be sure to let your provider know in advance so your appointment time can be adjusted accordingly.

  • Brown spots or sun damage may temporarily darken and appear more noticeable before naturally flaking off over the course of  7–14 days – no picking, peeling or exfoliating shedding skin. Redness and skin tone evenness improve gradually over 4-6 weeks.

  • The number of sessions will depend on your individual skin goals, but a series of 3–5 treatments spaced about 4 weeks apart is generally recommended for best results.

Post-Treatment Care

  • Protect your results—your skin is highly sensitive to sun (photosensitive) after IPL:

    • Absolutely avoid direct sun exposure for at least 2 weeks post-treatment. This is imperative and failure to comply may lead to undesired and potentially permanent results.

    • No tanning, tanning beds, or sunburns throughout the entire duration of your treatment plan.

    • Daily use of SPF 30+ is non-negotiable. Reapply every 2 hours when outdoors, even on cloudy days.

    • Use the iS Clinical Pure Care Collection Kit for the first 7 days. These products are specifically formulated to support post-laser skin.
      • Step 1: Cleanse
Gently cleanse with Cleansing Complex using cool water. Pat dry with a clean, soft towel. Use morning and evening.
      • Step 2: Soothe
Apply Pro-Heal Serum Advance+ to calm inflammation and provide powerful antioxidant protection. Use 3–5 drops once daily, or as directed.
      • Step 3: Hydrate
Apply Hydra-Cool Serum to hydrate and comfort the skin. This can be used morning and evening and layered under moisturizer.
      • Step 4: Moisturize
Follow with Sheald Recovery Balm to deeply nourish and support the skin barrier. Reapply throughout the day as needed for dryness or tightness. **note – this may initially burn on first application following procedure and is normal and will resolve quickly after application.
      • Step 5: Protect
In the daytime, finish with Eclipse SPF 50+ for broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection. Apply generously and reapply as needed.

    • Avoid anti-inflammatories such as NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen, aspirin) for 5 days because these medications interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is crucial for skin healing and rejuvenation. Additionally, NSAIDs thin the blood, potentially increasing risk of bleeding or bruising after the procedure.

    • Allow darkened pigment to flake off naturally — no picking, peeling or exfoliating shedding skin.

    • Avoid hot showers, sweating, and saunas for at least 48 hours.

    • Discontinue all retinoids, acids, exfoliants, and active products at least 7 days post treatment or as directed by your provider.

    • Absolutely no sun exposure while your skin is healing—SPF 30+ daily is required and must be reapplied when exposed.

    • Redness and sensitivity may persist for several days—Recommended comfort measures:
      • Cold Compresses (wrapped, never direct ice) can be used 5-10 minutes 3-4 times daily.
      • Vinegar Soak (cleanses skin, reduces bacteria and promotes healing)
        • Mix 1 tablespoon of white distilled vinegar with 1 cup of cool distilled/bottle water
        • Soak clean, soft gauze or washcloth in solution and gently place on treated area for 10-15minutes
        • 2-3 times daily – especially the first few days post treatment.

    • Makeup can typically be resumed after 24 hours, use clean brushes/tools only.

Consistency = Maximized Results

  • IPL offers powerful results- but only if paired with proper at-home care

    • Your home routine is just as important as your in-office treatment. We all this the 80/20 rule. 80% of your results reflect what is done daily at home while 20% is the treatment itself. Stick to clinical-grade skincare to prolong and enhance your results.

    • Simply Serene’s Personalized Post-Care Recommendation – Curated to Maximize Your Glow

    • For pigment: Pure Radiance Box (Cleansing Complex, Brightening Serum, Brightening Complex, Extreme Protect SPF)
    • For rosacea: Pure Calm Box (Cleansing Complex, Pro-Heal, Hydra-Cool, Extreme Protect SPF)
    • For collagen maintenance & gene regulation: Cleansing Complex, GenExC, Daily Dynamic Hydrator, Extreme Protect SPF

      • Discuss a personalized product plan to support skin remodeling, brightening, and hydration.

    • Can I combine this with other treatments?

Absolutely—with a plan! Ask your provider about adding other services such as botox, filler and facials to enhance your results.

    • FAQ : Who is not a good candidate for IPL? IPL may not be suitable for darker skin tones, history of melasma or those using photosensitizing medications. We’ll assess your eligibility during your consultation.
